Remember Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ in your will

Legacies and bequests have played a vital part in the formation and history of The University of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥. Legacy giving is easy, flexible and tax efficient. It doesn’t cost a penny during your lifetime.

Today a growing number choose to recognise the sense of close community by including a gift to Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ in their will. Even a small share of your estate could make a big difference to the University, whilst safeguarding both your intentions and the interests of your loved ones.

We recommend that you seek legal advice at the earliest stage of writing a will.

Types of legacy

There are many choices of legacy:

  • A percentage of your estate after other debts have been cleared (a residuary legacy)
  • A specified sum of money (a pecuniary legacy)
  • An item of value, such as a painting, artefact, manuscript etc (a specific legacy)
  • You may wish to provide for your family or a loved one first and then for any remaining gift to be passed to The University of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ after their death (a reversionary legacy)

Tax Efficient

Gifts to charities, such as The University of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, are exempt from Inheritance Tax (IHT). If your gift is for more than 10% of your estate, then Inheritance Tax is reduced from 40% to 36%. Whichever way you preferred means of giving, you can rest assured that your gift will be in good hands.

Suggested Wording in your Will

To leave a residuary gift, we suggest:

‘I give ______% of my residuary estate to The University of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, Hunter Street, Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, MK18 1EG, United Kingdom to be applied for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Vice-Chancellor or other proper officer of The University of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ shall be a complete discharge to my trustees’

To leave a pecuniary gift (cash sum), we suggest:

‘I give £____to The University of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, Registered Charity No:1141691, Hunter Street, Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, MK18 1EG, United Kingdom

to be applied for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Vice-Chancellor or other proper officer of The University of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ shall be a complete discharge to my trustees’
